Community Culture
Community Gallery & Chandler Gallery
Community Gallery | While our agency is still configuring our physical spaces post covid, we’ve added a second exhibition location in our 20 Sacramento office floor space. Located on the 2nd floor main office, I have repurposed a space to be used a community gathering and gallery for our team members. Exhibitions have rotated every 3-6 months featuring a new team member, starting in the winter of 2023.
Chandler Gallery | An established community gallery since the 1970’s, we’ve hit pause on the consistent exhibition schedule, and have used the exhibition space for arts programming, as well as exhibiting our students artwork. The most recent visual exhibition was a memorial curated by myself in honor of a former after school student and artist, “Remembering Jamie.” The exhibition was November 2022-January 2023.
Maud’s Markets
Introduced in December 2021 during the rebooted, “Kids Only Holiday Sale,” artists/staff members of the agency could sell their handmade created wares and goods in Maud’s Handmade Holiday Market.
Brought back again for the winter of 2022 and for the first time last Spring, Maud’s May Market.
Arts N’ Craft Brews
In the summer of 2019, I transformed the MMA side yard into a beer garden. And with the help of our team members, we had live music, good beer and art! Below are the basic details of the evening: Featuring the opening reception of Postcards to Fay in the Chandler Gallery. Buy a piece of art, create a silkscreened t-shirt designed by Boriana Kantcheva, enjoy a grilled snack, and sip local brews!
When: August 1st, 6:00-9:00 PM
Special thanks to these local breweries and businesses for providing our beer, food and raffle prizes: Cambridge Brewing Company, Lamplighter Brewing Company, Clown Shoes Beer, Tree House Brewing Company; Trader Joe’s
Other development based events have also been held during my tenure at MMA, in continuing in the “Spirit Award” tradition; The MMA community honors a member who best exemplifies our community values. The last one honoring, Raul the Third: In his career thus far, Raul the Third has not only embodied the spirit of Maud Morgan the artist but also that of Maud Morgan Arts. His history here has touched almost all of our programs – from being the first instructor for MMA, to teaching in Agassiz Baldwin’s Afterschool and Outback summer program. As this year’s Spirit Awards honoree, Raul will be recognized not only for his many contributions to our community but to those all over Boston and beyond.
Posted below are other peeks at community related projects over the years (at MMA) that I have orchestrated with my team members.
